There's something majestic about the riding in France and it's difficult to explain, but the one thing I can honestly say is that it is INCREDIBLE! Every time I was out on the bike I was continually amazed and in awe at either the scenery, the number of riders at the top of a Col, the amount of nutella I just heaped on my croissant, or the friendly shouts of encouragement from random passing people. The Alps are the Mecca of cycling.
It's been awhile since I was able to update my blog and my tr…

Great to hear the camera is found!
Thx for the IM Louisville wishes...I'm ready on the bike, can't wait to see how it goes myself:)
We need a couple more 508 training sessions before October, don't you think? But who will be able to keep up with you now?:)
My trip to Italy and Greece was amazing and I had an incredible time despite got pickpocketed on the first day I was in Italy. They took my camera and my wallet, so my nice memory pictures from the race and the trip Nat and I did are no more :-(. I was very distraught about it, but managed to rebound from it. Thanks for asking. My actual 40th birthday was fun and relaxing, just the way I would want it to be. We arrived in Chania, Crete Island on my b'day by ferry as the sun was rising... beautiful and peaceful. While the rest of the tour members caught some zzz (most did not get much sleep on the ferry overnite from athens to chania) I enjoyed some quiet time at the hotel pool, swimming laps and having my "healthy" breakfast. Met a soccer ref from Greece, north of athens and had a great discussion. The rest of morning spent wondering around town. After lunch and some b'day drinks, some of us went for an ocean swim. Just love the clear and warm water... More beer after swimming, enjoyed as we walked back to the hotel. Hoping to go on a sunset cruise before dinner, but the weather was bad and no boats were going out. Several members of my tour group joined me at dinner at a highly reccommended restaurant. Indeed, the food was fresh, tasty and just marvelous. i stuff myself so much, not too mention the ongoing consumption of red wine, I was barely able to have my "b'day cake" at the end. Besides having a wonderful time in the water wherever we went, I also tried seakayaking for the first time (lots of fun...can see myself doing it again), hiking down the Gorge of Samaria (massive and impressive, never seen so many rocks and boulders in my life!!), and enjoyed the visits to some ruins of ancient Greek in Knossos and Delos.
Just love Italy!!! will go back at some point in the distant future when I have recovered financially...he..he... it was an expensive trip, but I had an incredible time of my life.
Where are you in California? Depending on what races I choose for next year, I may have to make a trip south to S. Diego or Palm springs, to cycle outdoor, getting me ready for may races. What races are you doing next year?
Nice hearing from you and stay in touch. Nat and I may get together tomorrow for a BBQ. Cheers, Kartika
P.S.: do you keep in touch with Alexis and Orion? oh yeah, thanks once again for helping me out with your tools, I definitely have to enhance my bike tool supply.
you get a gold medal from me man for all the incredible cycling you've done to date. I have been tracking you when I get a chance.
I hope all is well and looking forward to hearing more on your experience.
Keep up the excellent work and Cheers, Kartika
P.S.: I will be back in Nice on July 28, leaving the next day in the afternoon. If you are back to Nice then, we should get together over drinks and catch up on your journey. Let me know. I will be staying at Hotel Victoria on Victor Hugo, not far from the Holiday Inn.

Just watched Carlo put in the last bit of 110 kilometers for the day, impressive! He's biking and scoping out the viewing spots for the Alps mountain stages of the Tour de France on July 20, 22 and 23. Stage 16 is on July 22, and then Stage 17 includes L'Alpe D'Huez on July 23. Check out Greg and Carlo's pages for more news and blog info...
Check in daily. We are hoping to see him on the live TV coverage of the Tour while he watches the race at the top of Col de la Bonette on July 22.Click here for GPS tracking of Carlo >>
