Watch the Biggest Bike Relay in the World to Cure Juvenile Diabetes
The 2009 Accu-Chek Cyclebetes Provincial Relay is a relay across Canada from Nova Scotia to British Columbia, covering over 10,000 kilometers. It kicks off tomorrow, Sunday, August 23 in Halifax, Novia Scotia. The first day will cover 67 miles on a route from Halifax to Truro, Nova Scotia.
Sunday is also the start of a record-breaking attempt for Cyclebetes Australia. Their team of 15 riders kicks off a Guiness Book of World Records attempt with a ride from Cairns to Melbourne in 7 days.
WatchMyRace is sponsoring the Accu-Check Cyclebetes team and supporting live GPS location updates as they make their way across Canada. Support the cause of curing Juvenile Diabetes and spread the news about the dedicated team of adult/youth riders making this journey.
Here is an excerpt from the CEO of Cyclebetes, Willie Cromack to the team supporting this amazing effort:
"In about 24hrs the first group of Accu-Chek Cyclebetes riders will launch the gorgeous, custom pearl white Norco tandem bike into action. On board will be the relay baton, an Accu-Chek Nano diabetes meter, which will remind us why we are riding, what we are fighting for and how a promise has begun to help so many. On our way we will be joined by thousands of riders as they support the team in their quest to make it across Canada. Our cycling version of a torch relay is all about awareness and everyone taking a piece of it with them. This relay is our answer to a promise; a promise a father made to his daughter, a promise we each make to cause change, a promise to be the difference maker and a promise to always do something about it.
Today it is my turn to thank each of you for your efforts, to congratulate you on what you have done, how far you have come and what you will do.
You will never again be the same.
This is going to be big.
This is going to be amazing.
This will be a marker on your life’s journey you will never forget.
